Tahoe Tribune - 1979.
After a year long trip back packing around the world I
returned to South Lake Tahoe and started working as a member
of a six artist team working on a State of California funded
Community Art Development Project .
Yemen Article about Darleen - 1986.
Yemen is an artist’s delight. The women’s attire is colorful
with patterns and exotic designs. From these images I
painted a series of semi-abstract paintings portraying the
country’s regional costumes.
Oxford Mail - 1987.
Leaving Yemen to live in Oxford, England , where Jan, my
husband went to complete his Doctorate at the University ,
gave me the chance to establish a small textile business. I
imported hand woven fabric from Morocco, dyed it and made
fashion clothing which was sold around the country at
exhibitions.
“Interbilim” Newsletter – Central Asia - 1995.
Aid to Artisans (ATA)is a non-profit US organization
dedicated to creating economic opportunity among artisans
and communities around the world. Darleen worked with ATA in
Central Asia on a USAID funded program to help local
non-governmental organizations strengthen their capabilities
to function effectively in a sustainable manner and to help
them enhance members’ abilities to sell their folk art
locally and internationally.
Newspaper article about exhibition sponsored by a princess of the
Jordanian Royal Household.
“Arab Medina’s in Batik” was an exhibition of my work
showcasing the architecture of Jordan. The show also
displayed my hand painted clothing and home decorating
items.
Jordan Arts and Crafts Show - 1998.
This was a group showing with two other women. There is a
vibrant women’s art community in Jordan which is challenging
to gain membership of. Most women show their work in small
private locations to invited guests only. It was a privilege
and a pleasure to become part of this small elite group.
